Against the backdrop of the French Revolution and following an affair with a mortal aristocrat, he promises to watch over her daughter-only to learn the child is his.
Now settled in Manhattan, only two descendents of his union remain, Amanda and her brother Ryan. After Amanda witnesses a savage murder in Central Park she is determined to find the ethereal stranger who saved her life.
When their worlds inevitably collide Christian finds he cannot prevent Amanda from becoming a pawn in a centuries-old struggle for power. As a confrontation between ancient enemies comes to a head, Christian must face a betrayal from his past that haunts him and threatens the woman he loves.

Immortal Obsession by Denise K. Rago is a must read for all paranormal romance fans! It’s very reminiscent of Anne Rice’s vampire novels, but make no mistake, it is all very different and very much original. Rago takes vampire lore and turns it on its head. I was entranced from the very first pages. The book has a whole cast of characters, but they never get lost within the story. It is told in different POVs, but it’s mostly told in Christian and Amanda’s voice. One other main character, Gaetan, has a voice as well.
Christian is a somewhat tortured soul. He fled the French Revolution and warring vampire factions with his friend, Michel, but left his mortal love, Josette, behind facing her own death. You might think that would be the end of the story, but his affair with her will have far-reaching consequences through the centuries to present day, New York. Amanda, who by all appearances is normal, is at the center of all of it. Her life is in danger, and Christian will do whatever it takes to keep her safe. However, he wasn’t prepared to fall in love with her. I’m not surprised by that as he is one of the only vampires left with some of his humanity.
Amanda is an intelligent woman, and she won me over with her love of history. She is also tenacious, stopping at nothing to solve her brother’s murder. She knows it is somehow connected with Christian’s club. She is initially torn between two vampires, but I liked that she was decisive once she knew her heart belonged to Christian.
Now, Gaetan, is quite the complicated character. He isn’t easy to like at all. He has lost so much of his humanity over his many years as a vampire. So, it’s amazing how Rago can show her readers his human side, and yet we know the dastardly deed he must commit to keep that part of himself. I cannot believe I’m writing this, but I almost felt sorry for him in some ways.
Not only were the characters the type who pull you into the story, but the storyline itself drew me in. There was love, romance, and betrayal. All those things kept me flying through the book.
I have read some reviews about this not being a very well-written book. I’m not sure if the book has been through edits, but I found it to be very well-written. Her descriptive writing, especially Christian’s memories, put me right there in the book with him.
The ending opened up even more questions and possibilities. I have a feeling the next book will have even more twists and turns. I cannot wait to read it!!!

Immortal Obsession edition by Denise K Rago Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
What happens when a centuries-old threat follows you from one continent to another and threatens to take from you what you love most?
Now you know what vampire Christian Du Maure is facing. In the modern world, he and his friend and fellow vampire Michel Baptiste own and operate a trendy bar where humans flock, hoping to be chosen as donors. One such donor, though, is more than he seems. When he gets himself killed and his sister Amanda is endangered by powers beyond her wildest imagination, Christian vows that he will keep her safe, no matter what happens.
The paranormal novel IMMORTAL OBSESSION, by Denise K. Rago, is a compelling read, full of twists and turns and populated with a truly engrossing cast of characters ... vampires and humans, alike.
In something of the style of the vampires in Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series, Rago's vampires, for the most part, are born and bred in France, lending them (even in the contemporary setting) an historic gallantry and mystery that makes them highly intriguing. Christian and Michel are as opposite as they might be in personality and personal tastes, and yet their camaraderie and closeness is obvious.
Meanwhile, Amanda and her hapless brother Ryan are equally three-dimensional and encourage both sympathy and concern as they face down the otherworldly powers-that-be against which they find themselves fighting. Amanda, who works at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is personable, inquisitive, and loyal to a fault, making her a worthy heroine.
A future edition of the work could stand a close proofread for repetitive words and phrases and the periodic error in grammar and punctuation. I was distracted a couple of times by instances of head-hopping (in which a scene is portrayed through the eyes of more than one character at a time) and found it difficult, at times, to follow the large cast of characters and keep track of all their different relationships with one another, especially among the vampires.
Nonetheless, IMMORTAL OBSESSION was a read that I enjoyed very much and would recommend to anyone who prefers their suspense and thriller fiction laced with something paranormal.

Disclaimer I received a complimentary copy of this work from the author in exchange for an honest, though not necessarily positive, review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
Almost feel guilty rating this since I couldn't finish it - it was that bad.
The writing was horrific, just gnarly to read. Complete contradictions between one sentence and the next. Often.
Neither the plot nor the characters ever caught my interest - don't care to know more about them or the why or what comes next. What is the opposite of a book you can't put down? Now I know.
I really did not understand all the positive reviews...
Ordinarily I don't read vampire stories, but I picked this up from . I am so, so, happy that I did. New novelist, Denise K. Rago, had me glued to her book. I couldn't put it down. I know others have given you a hint of the story line, but I will not. I don't want to spoil the intrigue. You will lose yourself in this book, while traveling through the pages. Hold on for the ride for it is a FANTASTIC read. I will definetly purchase every novel written by Denise K. Rago. I can't wait for the next one. Keep them coming!
I thoroughly enjoy this book, stayed up till 300 am to finish it
